What to compare

Compare the interest rate, APR, loan term, points, closing costs and cash required at closing. A lower monthly payment can result from a longer term and may increase total interest.

Questions to ask

Ask for a Loan Estimate using the same loan amount and lock period. Check whether taxes, insurance and mortgage insurance are included in the quoted payment.

Build a complete cost picture

List the amount received, repayment schedule, interest rate, fees and total amount repaid. Use the same amount and term when comparing offers. Check whether the rate can change and whether early repayment carries a charge. An estimate cannot establish approval or eligibility.
